Beech Mountain is the tallest town on the East coast and has the highest elevation ski resort east of the Mississippi. Beech is also home to Genesis Wildlife Sanctuary which is a cool place to see some wild animals.

Cliff Haus is only minutes from Sugar Mtn Ski Resort and overlooks the town of Banner Elk. You can also take the backway to Boone and ski at Appalachian Ski Mountain by the time it takes to finish a small cup of coffee. Cliff Haus is also convenient to Hawksnest Ski Resort which offers night skiing till midnight on weekends.
